Music Challenge Day 11

Oh my God, October has passed by sooooo fast... Today is the last day of the Music Challenge, which makes me kind of sad...

I really loved this Challenge. At first I thought the themes were really hard, since I was not familiar with some of the songs. But as I started doing the themes, they seemed simpler than I thought and I let my immagination go wild... LOL! The truth is, I always have lack of immagination but I'm easily inspired... :)

Anyway, for the last day of the Challenge, our song was Born to be wild from Steppenwolf.

As soon as I read the song title, I knew I was doing a leopard mani...

Here we go...

I used China Glaze Champagne Bubbles as my base color. I had actually bought this polish for stamping in my newbie days... :) But unfortunately, it was not a good pick. Anyway, I wore Essence Make It Golden on top of it and after that, I stamped the Konad leopard design with Konad Special Black... Oh, and I made little dots with China Glaze I'm not lion.

Shiny and bright, this mani raised a lot of attention... :)

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween Everyone!!!

You should know that Halloween is not celebrated officially in Turkey, but we still have parties for adults in night clubs and costume parties for kids in kindergarten. But no "Trick or Treat"ing... :(

Anyway, while my daughter was in Kindergarten, we celebrated Halloween 4 years in a row. I sew costumes for her, mostly princess stuff, and she went "Trick or Treat"ing in the Kindergarten, visiting the Principal's office and the other classes. Sad thing though, since she is in grade 2 this year, they don't have a special celebration, and this makes her really sad. I'm gonna make her a nice mani and give her some candy to ease her pain... LOL

Anyway, after I saw the swatches of OPI's new Halloween Collection in Fashion Polish's blog, I couldn't help but wonder, since I have no chance of getting that set, how could I find a substitute?

At that point, Essence came to rescue. I knew that this collection was dated mid-summer, it hit the Turkish shelves a week ago. I bought all the polishes... :) And surprisingly, those colors looked really similar to OPI's... Hmmm, what a coincidence....

So I started my Halloween Manicure...

I started with painting my base colors, just like Fashion Polish did... Essence Black is Back on the index finger, Four Wheel Drive on the middle finger, Miami Heat on the ring finger and Bienvenido a Miami on the pinkie... :)

Essence Miami Roller Girl Collection from LtoR ; 03 Four Wheel Drive, 04 Miami Heat, 01 Bienvenido a Miami, 02 Miami Pink (far right)

So far, so good... The formula is really nice on these polishes. They are almost one coaters, except for the yellow. But I did two coats for all, anyway.

Then I went through my plates and decided to use Bundle Monster BM301 and BM305 with Konad Special Black. And finished it all with a coat of Seche.

I'm pretty happy with the results. I'm sure OPI's collection is great also, but I believe that this is the next best thing.

What do you think?

Have a creepy Halloween!!!

Music Challenge Day 10

Hello to all...

We are coming to an end of the Music Challenge... Today we have Madonna's Ray of Light. Honestly, I prefer Madonna's old songs. But this one's not that bad either... :)

I got inspired from the music video. Let's see what I did, shall we?

The first thing you should know that, Flormar came up with a new collection called Wild Nails, which consists of 6 chrome polishes. They are one coaters if you apply a thick coat. I've not tried stamping but they may be nice to stamp with. The only problem is the brush strokes, although if you apply a second coat, most of the brush strokes dissappear. The formula is nice, dries in a short time...

I used the first and the last ones, which are metallic greys for a gradient look for the base. Over the base, I applied Essence Hello Holo, a lovely shiny top coat that I loved so much... Really, I got my first bottle from my swap with the lovely Mateja, and my second bottle from the lovely Marianne... :) Thanks again, ladies, it was a pleasure swapping with you... :)

Anyway, I then applied the cityscape stamp from the Fun plate using Konad Special Black.

So, what do you think?

Music Challenge Day 9

Hello! Today is the 9th day of Music Challenge... Today it's time for Glitter in the air (P!nk)...

For this mani, I used the new collection from Flormar, Wild Nails. It is a pink/purple chrome, almost a one coater... I wore Essence It's Purplicious on it and I think they matched perfectly...

Music Challenge Day 8

Hello lovely followers... Today, on Music Challenge, we have Lana Del Ray with her lovely song Video Games... :)

Well, it is the first time I've heard this song. Upon some search on you tube, I found two versions, one slow original and one remix... I liked them both... But what inspired me was the official music video of the song. In the video, Lana was wearing a black striped yellow t-shirt which I absolutely loved....

It's all in the details, isn't it?

Here we go....

I used Essence Snow White Happy as my base color. I is a really happy warm shade of yellow... On it, I stamped stripes using the Cheeky plates with Konad Special Black... Urrggh, I really hate the clean up process of this polish. However it is the best stamping black I have... :)

Music Challenge Day 7

Today's theme for Music Challenge is Aqua - Barbie Girl. I think it is a real fun song... :) The voice of Ken and Barbie always makes me smile... I grew up playing with Barbie dolls, so they hold an important place in my childhood, as well as my daughter's. I really don't believe all that fuss about Barbie dolls being bad role models for kids. I still think they are better toys compared to all the evil monster looking creepy toys you see in the stores....

Anyway, for this mani, here's what I did...

I painted my nails with two coats of Models Own Tickled Pink. Then I used a coat of Kleancolor Chunky Holo Fuschia. And finally I sponged some pink holo glitter from Alix Avien tor the tips.... I then stamped this image from the Fun plate with Konad Special Black. It was the closest thing I had... :)

Come on Baribe, let's go party... :)

Music Challenge Day 6

Welcome to day 6 of the Music Challenge. Today we'll be working on every guitar players first song ever : Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple...

I'm not a great fan of Deep Purple however, this song has made its entrance to my life in highschool... How can you forget the first notes... :)

Anyway, I went with smoke this time. I used Essence 35 Movie Star, Rimmel Grey Matter and Flormar  Supermatte M157 for the gradient. Then I stamped it with Konad Special Black using BM309. And this is my smoke on the water... :)

Music Challenge Day 5

Another day for the Music Challenge... Today's challenge will be Katy Perry's Firework... I really love the song and the music video. Here's my mani for today... :)

I started wit a coat of Essence 76 Hard to Resist and stamped my fireworks several times with several stamping spolisges, in gold, silver and red. However, only the silver can be seen. And some of the red...  :( Oh, and I added some glitter from Alix Avien... :)

I really liked how this one turned out. What do you think?

Here are the plates I used... :)

Music Challenge Day 4

Hey hey... A song I know for today!!! It is Bad Romance from Lady Gaga...

IT has been a while since I watched the music video and the only thing that I remembered from the music video was Lady Gaga's red lips... So that's what I made for today...

I used Flormar Supermatte in White as my base... I stamped the BM02 lips with Avon Red Reveal. It is a really nice stamping polish. I did not have any reds for stamping so this one became my hero.. :)

For the accent nail, I used Essence 91 Glamorous Life. I have 3 coats on, since it is a sheer polish.

Lippy huh?

Avon Color Trend - Deluxe

Let me introduce you to the worst formulated polish I've had seen ever!!!

Not kidding! You know, I like Avon's polish. The formula has always satisfied me. So when I saw this month that they are coming with new colors, I pre-ordered some of them... And this little guy was the first one I tried.

First of all, the bottles are 8ml round bottles. They are not regular Avon bottles we used to see. Fine by me... The colors seems lovely in the bottle. A soft, pinkish burgundy... :)

Anyway, first coat was a disaster. The formula was so thick, it was obviously streaking. I had hoped the second coat would do the the trick, but I was wrong. Second coat was even more streakier!!! So I grabbed my polish thinner and added a few drops to the bottle. It helped with the formula, it was easier to handle. But third coat was still not satisfying. However, 3 thick coats and it had a super fast drying time!!! That's the only thing I liked about this polish...

Well, I just hope I got a bad bottle. 'Cause if all the others are like this, I think I'll be whining a lot more... :)

10/7/12

Music Challenge Day 3

Today's song is Judy Garland - Over the Rainbow, from the movie Wizards of Oz.

I had watched this movie countless times as a child and the one thing that impressed me most was the Tin Man getting his heart. So, here we go...

I used Avon Red Reveal as my base color. To make the look alike as Dorothy's red shoes, I added Essence 91 Glamarous Life to give it some glitter...I painted my accent nail with Essence 80 Icy Princess to represent the Tin Man. I made his screws with a dotting tool and black polish. I added him the heart using the design from Bundle Monster BM 317.

China Glaze Bohemian Lustre Chrome Collection - Swanky Silk

This is Swanky Silk from the China Glaze Bohemian Lustre Chrome Collection.

I have two coats on my nails. The color shift of this polish is really soft and nice, from pinky gold to yellow gold... Excuse my French, I am not that good at describing colors.

Anyway, it is not a very special polish for me, I guess I could have survived if I didn't get this one... :)

I sponged the tips with China Glaze I'm not lion to spice things up... Boy, now, this is one polish that you need... It deserves a big post on its own, which I'll gladly do sometime... It is highly holographic gold glitter that shines like crazy in the sunlight... Oh, I loved this one...

The pictures really cannot capture the beauty of the final product, but take a look anyway... :)

Music Challenge Day 2

Here's a challenge mani gone bad!!! Really bad...

Well, todays song for the Music Challenge was I Wanna Be A Rockstar by Nickelback. It was the first time I heard this song and I loved it. I wanted to make something girly...

I recently won the giveaway of the lovely Debbie, The Crumpet... She has sent me 5 gorgeous shades of Models Own polishes. They are my first Models Own polishes and I loved them all... Thank you again, Debbie... :)

Anyway, for today's challenge, I used one of those polishes. Soda Pop Pink, the baby pink, first one on the right... I have two coats of it. And then I stamped my nails with Konad Special Black using the plates FUN1 for my ring finger and pinky, Cheeky 31for index and middle fingers...

Here's the step I messed up! I normally use Seche Vite as a top coat and I'm truly happy with it. But today, I ended up using Essence Quick Dry Top Coat instead. Don't ask me why... :( Turns out, Essence and Konad are not best buddies... Hence the semaring on my nails... I hated them!

I wish I had not used a topcoat! I had really loved this mani... :(
